1. Nothing I see in this room [on this street, from this window, in this place] means anything.

Now look slowly around you, and practice applying this idea very specifically to whatever you see:

This table does not mean anything.

This chair does not mean anything.

This hand does not mean anything.

This foot does not mean anything.

This pen does not mean anything.

Then look farther away from your immediate area, and apply the idea to a wider range:

That door does not mean anything.

That body does not mean anything.

That lamp does not mean anything.

That sign does not mean anything.

That shadow does not mean anything.

Notice that these statements are not arranged in any order, and make no allowance for differences in the kinds of things to which they are applied. That is the purpose of the exercise. The statement should merely be applied to anything you see. As you practice the idea for the day, use it totally indiscriminately. Do not attempt to apply it to everything you see, for these exercises should not become ritualistic. Only be sure that nothing you see is specifically excluded. One thing is like another as far as the application of the idea is concerned.

Each of the first three lessons should not be done more than twice a day each, preferably morning and evening. Nor should they be attempted for more than a minute or so, unless that entails a sense of hurry. A comfortable sense of leisure is essential.

I feel that it only means

I feel that it only means what I allow it to mean and in it's meaning something it becomes an attachment a responsibility

i noticed that the things i c

i noticed that the things i c have only the meaning i give to them; each thing has the past idea or memory i locked in on that "thing i c"
so it is not the thing any more it is my past thought, experience, or projection that i feel when i see the "item"

i noticed that the things i c

i noticed that the things i c have only the meaning i give to them and it still has the "past" all over the "things"

I found this lesson to be

I found this lesson to be very freeing. I was surrounded by my mother's art supplies. She was a clutter-er and an artist, so you can imagine how much "stuff" I was surrounded by. Mom had Alzheimer's so I knew she would never paint again. I started to look at each item, telling myself these things had no meaning (from Lesson One), that they only had the meaning I gave them, (from Lesson Two). It was a slow process, as I did this periodically in an effort to raise my level of consciousness, and to be able to free myself from the attachment to these things of Mom's.

Now that area is cleared of her stuff, and I am free to enjoy the space.

It now is an ability I have to detach from "things" for the most part. Mom has since passed on to the other side and I am at peace with that.

I'm looking around feeling

I'm looking around feeling sad and confused as I do this lesson. I feel as if my Sand castle is washing away or my foundation inspection has failed to pass inspection.
